Dr Murray Hitzman

Dr. Hitzman is a world-leading economic geologist with a proven record as an ore-finder and mine developer. In his role as a Senior Advisor to Lionhead, Dr. Hitzman supports Lionhead in advising the Irish Minerals Fund, an investment partnership with the Irish Strategic Investment Fund, controlled and managed by the National Treasury Management Association.
Dr. Hitzman has almost 50 years experience in the mining industry, having initiated and managed base and precious metal exploration projects globally. Dr. Hitzman is a technical advisor to KoBold Metals, a Bill Gates-backed mineral exploration startup and to GeologicAI, which is redefining geological and mining decision-making with AI-powered analytical and modeling solutions. Previously, Professor Hitzman was the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Research Professor at University College Dublin (UCD) and Director of the Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences (iCRAG), and prior to that the Associate Director for Energy and Minerals at the US Geological Survey, where he served from 2016-2017. Previously, he was the Fogarty Professor in Economic Geology at the Colorado School of Mines from 1996 to 2016.
Dr. Hitzman has served as mining policy advisor to several governments and has been recognized for his work by his receipt of virtually every major award and citation in the field. He received B.A. degrees in Earth Science and Anthropology from Dartmouth College in 1976, an M.S. in geology from the University of Washington, Seattle in 1978 and a Ph.D. in Geology from Stanford University in 1983.
